credit vs. debit. What’s the difference?

Credit - Sign for Purchases

  • To ensure your purchase is protected, tell the cashier you want to sign for your purchase. Or, if there’s a PIN pad, swipe your card, press “credit” or “VISA debit” and sign. There’s no need to enter your PIN.

Debit - Use PIN for Cash Back

  • If you want cash back (available at many merchants), simply tell the cashier how much or, if there’s a PIN pad, swipe your card, press “debit” and enter your PIN.

Regardless of the payment type, the transaction amount is deducted from your checking account. Every transaction is detailed on your online account history and on your monthly statement.
