Avoid Mortgage Postcard Scams

The fraudsters are at it again with a postcard!

Recently we’ve seen a rise in mysterious postcards being mailed to members referring to a recently closed mortgage you may have with Eastern Indiana Federal Credit Union. It will ask you to call a phone number to discuss the matter. DON’T BE FOOLED. These little pink/blue postcards are not from Eastern Indiana Federal Credit Union. If you receive a postcard like this, It is a scam and do not call the number!

how did they get your info:

If you recently purchased or refinanced a mortgage, many records become public information. Your property address and mortgage lender can now be accessed publicly. Fraudsters often use this information to catch your eye on a postcard to impersonate your financial institution. The phone number listed on the postcard is a scam. Do not call the number!

what if you already called?

Contact Eastern Indiana FCU immediately 765.529.6632. As your Advocate, Eastern Indiana Federal Credit Union would never send you a postcard requesting that you call us regarding your mortgage. All communications regarding your personal accounts would be through first class mail in sealed envelopes, or by direct phone calls.

If you provided the scammers with any personal identifying information, contact the credit bureaus to place a temporary credit freeze on your report.

  • Experian 1-888-397-3742

  • TransUnion 1-888-909-8872

Here are some tell-tale signs to watch out for letting you know it’s a scam:

  • In the bottom right corner, you’ll see a “All information provided by H.W.C… loan information not provided by Eastern Indiana FCU”. All of our communications would clearly state that it is from Eastern Indiana Federal Credit Union.

  • Postcards coming from other names such as loandepot.com, Heritage Warranty Company, and Mortgage Protection Services are bogus companies as well.

  • You’ll notice a Mortgage ID number displayed. Eastern Indiana FCU would not show any personal information of yours on a postcard.

  • The phone number displayed does not match Eastern Indiana FCU’s member support phone number.
